Prep 5 min Freeze 3–4 hrs Makes ~12 treats Level Effortless

There is something quietly wonderful about being able to reach into the fridge and hand them something you actually made yourself — something simple, something real and something you feel good about giving them.

That is exactly where this recipe started. Lana has strong opinions about blueberries — she will appear from anywhere in the house the moment she hears them land in a bowl. Blending them with plain yogurt and freezing the mixture felt like the most natural thing to do with an ingredient she already loved.

If you have been thinking about making homemade treats for your dog, this is a lovely one to start with. Two ingredients, five minutes and your freezer does the rest — your pup will love them.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain unsweetened yogurt
  • ½ cup fresh blueberries
  • Whole blueberries (optional, to press into molds)
  • A splash of water (optional, if needed for blending)
You'll also need: silicone treat molds — paw, bone or any shape your dog deserves.

Instructions

  1. Add the yogurt and blueberries to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth. Add a small splash of water if the mixture feels too thick to pour.
  3. Pour the mixture into silicone molds, filling each cavity.
  4. For extra texture, press a few whole blueberries into each mold before freezing — they look beautiful once set.
  5. Place on a flat surface and freeze for 3–4 hours, or until completely firm.
  6. Flex the molds gently to release. Serve as an occasional cool treat.

From Life With Lana  ♡

These blueberry frozen yogurt dog treats are one of those recipes that look far more impressive than the effort involved. With just a handful of ingredients and a little freezer time, you can create something your dog will genuinely love — whether that's as a summer cool-down, a lick mat activity or simply because they deserve something special on an ordinary afternoon.

Every dog is a little different, so try it with your pup and see what they think. Lana gives them her full endorsement — but your dog's reaction is the one that counts.

♡ A gentle reminder

Always check that ingredients are safe for your specific dog before introducing anything new. Stick to plain, unsweetened yogurt and ensure it is completely xylitol-free. Serve as an occasional treat rather than a daily snack, and introduce slowly if your dog has a sensitive tummy.

Common questions

Good to know

Are blueberry frozen yogurt dog treats safe?

Yes — both blueberries and plain unsweetened yogurt are considered safe for most dogs in moderation. Always ensure the yogurt is completely free from xylitol, artificial sweeteners and added sugars. Xylitol is toxic to dogs and can be found in some yogurt brands, so always check the label carefully before using.

Can I use frozen blueberries instead of fresh?

Yes, frozen blueberries work perfectly well in this recipe. Allow them to thaw slightly before blending for a smoother result, or blend from frozen with a small splash of water to help everything come together. The flavour is just as lovely either way.

What type of yogurt is best for these dog treats?

Plain, unsweetened yogurt is the one to reach for. Greek yogurt works particularly well — it's lower in lactose and higher in protein, which makes it gentler on sensitive stomachs. Always read the label and avoid anything flavoured, sweetened or containing xylitol. When in doubt, plain and simple is always safest.

How long do these treats last in the freezer?

Stored in an airtight container, these blueberry frozen yogurt treats keep well in the freezer for up to two weeks. After that the texture can begin to deteriorate. Since the recipe takes only five minutes to put together, making a fresh batch every week or two is easy and always worth it.

Can I use this mixture on a lick mat?

Absolutely — this is one of the best ways to use it. Pour the blended mixture directly onto a lick mat and freeze flat for 2–3 hours. It creates a wonderfully engaging enrichment activity that keeps dogs calm and focused. Perfect for warm afternoons or any time you need a few quiet minutes.

How many treats should I give my dog at once?

Treats of any kind should make up no more than around 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake. One or two of these small frozen treats is a reasonable amount for most dogs. Always consider your dog's individual size, weight and any sensitivities, and introduce new treats gradually to see how they respond.
