I don't think pets realise how much they comfort us.
Lana certainly doesn't. If you asked her, she'd probably tell you that her most important job is carrying toys around the house and making sure nobody walks past our home without her telling the whole neighbourhood about it. And Marshie would likely be too busy looking for a piece of banana hiding in the fruit bowl.
Yet somehow, without even trying, they make life worth living.
I've always felt a bigger connection to animals than to people. It's hard to explain. But if you have pets, you probably know the feeling.
I · When life gets heavy
On those days, my pets are the ones that carry me
There have been days when I've felt overwhelmed. for different reasons. Days when the to-do list felt endless. Days when life felt heavier than usual.
And on those days, Lana stays closer. She doesn't say anything. She just moves to wherever I am and stays there.
Marshie has his own way. He'll suddenly appear around the corner, jump up to my neck, nudge me with his tiny wet nose, and jump off again. just to say hey, I'm here, are you okay?
Or I'll look up from whatever is stressing me out and find the two of them peacefully napping together, without a care in the world.
And in that moment, life feels calm.
Everything feels a little lighter.
A little quieter.
A little softer.
From the heart
That little nose nudge from Marshie gets me every time. He never lingers — he just checks in and disappears again. But somehow it's always exactly enough.
Marshie and me, from the very beginning. ♡

II · They simply show up
They don't need to fix anything
One of the things I've learned from sharing my life with animals is that they don't need grand gestures to make a difference.
They don't need to fix our problems. They don't need to say the right thing.
They simply show up.
Every day. Exactly as they are.
When Chrystal was part of our family, she did the same. She carried me through the most difficult time of my life. One day, when I have the courage, I might write a book about her. about the deep emotional role she played. Looking back now, I realise some of my greatest comfort came from her quiet presence.
Not because she solved anything.
But because she was there.
From the heart
Chrystal is never far from my thoughts when I watch Lana. That same quiet devotion. That same unconditional love. Some things carry forward.
Chrystal. ♡
"They don't ask whether you've had a good day. They don't care if you've made mistakes. They simply show up. Every day. Exactly as they are."
III · What they bring back
Back to what really matters
That's the remarkable thing about pets. They don't ask whether you've had a good day. They don't care if you're successful, stressed, tired, emotional, or rich.
To them, you're simply their person. And that love remains wonderfully unchanged.
In a world that can feel busy, noisy, and complicated, pets bring us back to what matters.
A walk. A cuddle. A wagging tail. A bunny nose twitching nearby. A quiet moment shared with someone who loves you exactly as you are.
And perhaps that's why I love that photo of Lana and Marshie so much. They're not doing anything extraordinary. They're simply being them.
Yet somehow, that image says everything.
From the heart
Love sometimes arrives on four paws. Or occasionally, two very fluffy ears.

And somehow, without even trying, they make every day feel a little softer.
