Simple things dogs love most

They don't ask for much. But when you really pay attention, you realise they find joy in things that cost nothing at all. and somehow that's the most beautiful thing about them.

If Lana could create her own list of favourite things, I think these would probably be right at the top.

Walkies. Homemade treats. Cozy naps. Sunshine days. A good sniff around absolutely everything. And most importantly, being close to the people she loves. Just simple things.

And if you think about your own dog for a moment, I have a feeling their list would look surprisingly similar.

Sometimes I think dogs understand something that many of us forget. Happiness doesn't have to be complicated.

Walkies

Lana loves walkies. But if she had a choice, she'd definitely choose off-leash adventures.

I think she just loves the feeling of being free.

The beach. The park. A quiet path. It doesn't really matter where we're going. To her, every walk feels like an adventure.

Maybe it's because dogs don't focus so much on the destination. They're too busy enjoying the journey. Stopping to sniff. Exploring new smells. Taking in the world around them.

And if you've ever found yourself standing patiently while your dog investigates a particularly interesting bush, you're probably smiling right now.

Homemade treats

There is something special about giving your dog a treat you've made yourself. Maybe it's because we know exactly what's in it. Maybe it's because we enjoy spoiling them a little.

For some reason, this little miss absolutely refuses to be impressed by most store-bought treats.

Homemade treats, however? Now we're talking.

Fresh ingredients. Thoughtfully chosen by Mom. Some of our favourite recipes are right here. Only the best goes into the treats we make for Lana. And judging by how quickly they disappear, I think she approves.

Cozy naps

One thing I've always admired about dogs is their ability to rest without feeling guilty about it. And it seems they are never quite rested enough.

I mean, Lana could sleep the entire day if she found a sunny spot comfortable enough. Actually, now that I think about it, she often does.

When Lana is tired, she sleeps. That's it. No worrying about unfinished tasks. No feeling guilty for taking a break. No stressing about tomorrow. She simply curls up somewhere comfortable and enjoys the moment.

There is probably a lesson in that somewhere.

That exhale You know the one — the long, slow sigh as she settles in. The sound of a dog who is exactly where she wants to be. It is one of the most peaceful sounds in the world.

Sunshine days

Have you ever noticed how dogs can find the only patch of sunshine in an entire room?

Lana certainly can.

Somehow she always manages to position herself perfectly where the sunlight falls. Then she'll stretch out and soak it all in as if she's discovered life's greatest secret.

Maybe she has.

Because there is something wonderfully simple about sitting in the sunshine and doing absolutely nothing. That golden fur in that golden light. it's one of my favourite sights.

Sniffing everything

This one makes me laugh.

Dogs approach the world with endless curiosity. Every leaf. Every tree. Every blade of grass. Every corner deserves investigation. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is overlooked.

And there's actually a reason for it. a dog's nose can detect information we can't even begin to imagine. Who passed by, when they came through, how they were feeling. Every sniff is a story.

Sometimes I wonder how different life would feel if we approached our days with a little more curiosity and a little less hurry.

Being near you

Out of everything on this list, I suspect this is Lana's favourite.

Not the walks. Not the treats. Not even the sunshine.

Just being near the people she loves.

If I move to another room, she's usually not far behind. If I'm making coffee, she's nearby. If I'm watering the plants, she's supervising. If I'm sitting quietly, she'll often settle down close enough for me to know she's there.

And if you've ever shared your life with a dog, I have a feeling you know exactly what I mean.

There is something incredibly special about being someone's favourite person. Especially when that someone has four paws and loves you with their whole heart.

“Some of the happiest moments in life aren’t the big ones. They’re the small ones. And dogs have a way of making sure we don’t miss them.”
From Life With Lana  ♡

The little things really do mean the most

The older I get, the more I think Lana might be onto something.

Some of the happiest moments in life aren't the big ones. They're the small ones.

A walk in the fresh air. A warm patch of sunshine. A cozy nap. A cup of coffee. A quiet afternoon. A dog resting beside you.

The things that matter most are often the things we overlook because they're part of everyday life.

Maybe that's one of the greatest gifts dogs give us. They remind us to slow down. To notice. To appreciate. And to find joy in the simple things.

And if you're reading this while your dog is sleeping nearby, I hope you take a moment to enjoy it.

Because one day, these ordinary moments become the memories we treasure most. ❤️
